Position Details

Job Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
- First Timers Accepted: Yes, if they have Level I Trauma experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (verify per unit)
- Licensing:
- Must have Indiana RN license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license prior to start
- Call Requirements:
- Approximately 100 hours per 6 weeks
- 1 call weekend per 6 weeks (Friday evening to Monday morning)
- Float Requirements:
- Must float to other OR specialties
- Shift Details:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
- 3 twelve-hour shifts totaling 36 hours/week
- 4 twelve-hour shifts totaling 48 hours/week
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Special Skills:
- Comfortable scrubbing in CV/PV/Heart and Lung transplant surgeries
- Experience with heart & lung transplants, aortic dissections, ECMO
- Must rate 3/4s in scrubbing skills for transplant surgeries
- Pending License: Accepted if Indiana, compact, or Indiana temporary license is in hand prior to start
- Locals Accepted: Yes, Indiana residents eligible
Important Notes
- IU Health requires perioperative/OR RN travelers (including Endoscopy, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) to be exempt from the Indiana RN restriction effective 11/30/24.
- Scrub experience is mandatory to be considered for this position.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start
- Includes 7-year work/living history, SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks, national sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education Verification: Required, may be pending at start if needed
- Licenses: Online verification within 30 days before start, including expiration and disciplinary status
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start; must be tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted; history of disease not accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 flu season; no declinations accepted
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology test and unit competency exam required
- References: Minimum of 2 references from recent employment within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start and annually
- Application: Must be current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
Orientation & Training
- Completion of IU Health mandatory modules (22 total) required prior to orientation for applicable roles
- Facility-specific forms and packets must be completed as a priority before start date
This position is ideal for RNs with CVOR experience who are comfortable scrubbing in complex transplant surgeries and are willing to work call and float within OR specialties. The role requires strong compliance with health and background documentation and adherence to IU Health’s orientation and training requirements.
