Job Details

• Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
• Location: Martinsburg, WV
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Length: 8-hour shifts (also options for 10- and 12-hour shifts available)
• Shift Times: Varied start times, primarily day/evening shifts
• Call Requirements:

  • One weekend day on-call (7a-7p) per month
  • One weeknight on-call (7p-7a)
  • Call response time: 20 minutes (if >20 minutes away, must stay on site)
• Weekend and Holiday:

  • Weekend call rotation required
  • One holiday call as needed
  • No holiday shifts regularly scheduled
• Floating: No floating required
• Orientation: 3 shifts of floor-specific orientation

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: 3 years (higher end of 2-3 years range stated)
• Prior Travel Experience: Required - 2-3 previous travel assignments in the specialty
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • ACLS and PALS required
• Preferred Experience: Orthopedic and Neurosurgery experience preferred

Work Environment

• Unit: Main Operating Room (Cost Center 72) with 14 suites
• Case Load: Average 28 cases per day plus 5 add-ons (including same-day surgery cases)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 in OR
• EMR System: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: Yes, 7a-7p; may take circulate cases if needed
• OR Techs: Present, with a 2 Techs to 1 RN ratio; techs responsible for room turnover and no housekeeping aids
• Scrubs: Provided for RNs and OR Techs
• Tele Monitoring: RNs not required to interpret strips; anesthesia handles this
• Ventilator Support: Yes, Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7 with Omnicell system
• Surgeon On-Call Hours: Weekdays 7p-7a; weekends 7p Friday to 7a Monday
• Common Case Types:

  • All surgical cases except open heart
  • High volume of neuro spine, total joints, open fractures
  • General surgery and ENT
  • Vascular cases expected starting in August
• Scrubbing: RN scrubbing is a plus but not required

Additional Notes

• Must have a valid driver’s license with an address outside 50 miles from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Background checks must be disclosed at time of submission
• No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling allowed if it meets unit needs
• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
