Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - CST (Certified Surgical Technologist)

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Perform scrub duties during surgical procedures under direct supervision of the physician and circulating registered nurse.
  • Assist in departmental operations as directed.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency in patient care across all life stages: infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Assist the surgeon as scrub personnel according to established standards, including:
    • Scrubbing, gowning, and gloving per policy.
    • Setting up tables, instruments, and supplies relevant to the operation.
    • Preparing and draping patients as needed.
    • Anticipating surgeon needs for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
    • Observing patients and preparing for emergencies.
    • Maintaining correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse.
    • Maintaining aseptic technique at all times.
    • Assisting with care and handling of specimens and cultures.
    • Assisting with application of dressings, casts, and patient movement.

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Surgical Services (Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum experience consistent with CST role.
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers are accepted).

Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only, required for all candidates.
  • Other certifications (if applicable): ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification (mostly for RN roles, not specifically required here).
  • State License Verification (as applicable).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check within 1 year, including SSN trace, county, statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and other relevant checks.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Fingerprinting required only for specific departments (Early Learning Center or Outpatient Behavioral Health).
  • Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service.
  • I9 and E-Verify documentation required.
  • Residency Declaration Form if working on a compact license.
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit Mask (N95) test within 12 months of start, updated annually (exceptions apply).
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap within 10 years or signed declination.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
    • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B titer or series or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination required for clearance (declinations not accepted).
    • COVID vaccination preferred but not required.
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years.
  • Employment Application and Unit-Specific Skills Checklist (updated annually).
  • Work history verification for last 3 years.

  • ASAP start dates preferred.
  • Local candidates acceptable at same rate.
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific onboarding documents and attestations as required.
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests may be required as applicable.

This position is ideal for CSTs looking for a 13-week travel contract in Ohio with opportunities to work across all patient age groups in a surgical setting. Prior travel experience is not required.
