Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department. The unit currently experiences high patient-to-nurse ratios (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times and holidays).
Work Schedule
- Weekend shifts required: 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule
- Floating to Pediatrics possible
- No on-call required
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (Level I trauma experience required)
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- EPIC charting experience
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, high-ratio environment
Certifications Required
- Current State Nursing License (Michigan)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN as a substitute
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred/required for ER
Preferred Experience
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
- Triage experience
- Unit accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience not explicitly required)
Additional Notes
- High patient ratios require acknowledgment and readiness to manage workload
- Modules related to orientation and unit-specific training are completed onsite and are not billable hours (approximate 5 hours margin)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card
- E-Verify compliance
- Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification
- Michigan Workforce Fingerprinting not required for this facility
- Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity
- OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC included, medical marijuana cards not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- References: 2 from previous employers
- Current resume with 7-year work history
- Skills checklist and competency exams as required by unit
Summary
This is a travel contract opportunity for an ER Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of Level I trauma experience, required certifications, and the ability to work weekends and float to pediatrics. The position is in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center with challenging patient ratios. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
