Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in the Emergency Department (ED) of a Level I Trauma, Children's, and Teaching Hospital with 554 staffed beds.
- Shifts: 36 or 48 hours.
- Patient ratio: 1:5.
- Approximately 60%-80% of ED patients are admitted; many rooms serve as "ED Holding."
- Floating: Optional to Pediatric ED; expected to float to Adult PCUs, ED Holding, and Trauma as needed.
- Weekend work required as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday-Sunday nights).
- No locals accepted within 75 miles.
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with documentation.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required; will consider 1.5 years with strong Level 1 trauma experience.
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
- Prior travel experience is strongly preferred but not required. Candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered without prior travel experience.
- First-time travelers accepted.
Licensure & Certifications Required
- New Mexico RN license (pending license accepted at time of submission).
- Required certifications before submission:
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have before submission.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance due date before start)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Clinical Responsibilities
- Medication administration including IV medications following the seven medication rights.
- Document and communicate clinical findings.
- Care for trauma and emergency patients in a fast-paced environment with increased admit holds.
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Contracted hours per week: 36, 40, or 48 hours.
- Facility may call off up to 3 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- No on-call requirements.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: time off greater than 7 days requires approval.

Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start.
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months).
- Education verification required; diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable.
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start.
- Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required year-round with exemptions allowed.
- COVID vaccination no longer required but reporting still in place.
Additional Required Documents & Training
- Social Security card copy may be requested.
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted).
- Completion of facility-specific compliance forms and orientation materials prior to start.
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for ED and related units; must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section. Two attempts allowed.
- Medication and competency exams required with minimum passing scores.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certifications may be required depending on unit.
- MOAB certification required for Behavioral Health units; can be obtained onsite if not held prior to start.
Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications.
- Candidates must bring original New Mexico RN license with 3D seal onsite.
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation.
- Orientation includes fingerprinting and Cerner training attestation (testing out possible for experienced Cerner users).
- OT pay applies after 48 hours starting 10/30/2025 for new contracts.
