Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position involves working in a Medical PCU unit with almost ICU-level acuity.
- Patient population includes multiple cardiac drips, stable ventilators, multi-organ failure, liver failure, and pulmonary cases.
- Staffing ratio is 1:5.
- Travelers may be required to float to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU.
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with provided training and resources.
- Travelers must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during the assignment (teaching facility requirement).
- Weekend work: expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units.
- Experience with titrating cardiac drips, starting IVs, interpreting and managing dysrhythmias.
- Charge nurse experience is required.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS/BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Indiana.
- Note: Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start date; chest x-ray if positive.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations are not accepted.
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score for online testing.
Background & Documentation
- Background checks required within 30-90 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps over 30 days.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology test required.

- This is a travel/contract position with expectations for flexibility in scheduling and floating.
- Teaching facility environment with opportunities and requirements for precepting students.
- Charge nurse duties may be assigned based on operational needs.
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
