Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Unit Type: Admit Unit with intermediate level monitoring and medical-surgical patients
  • Common Diagnoses: Dysrhythmias, CHF, acute onset stroke (non-TPA), Acute Coronary Syndrome, Myocardial Ischemia
  • Environment: Fast-paced with focus on patient throughput and patient-centered care
  • Patient Monitoring: All patients on hardwire telemetry, self-monitored by RN
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Beds: 12
  • Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis
  • Schedule: Friday through Sunday
  • Floating: Possible during low census times
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (up to 2 holidays if 3 fall within assignment)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st timers accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Patient Care Skills: Monitoring interventions no more frequent than every hour, telemetry interpretation, medical-surgical nursing

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation Hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 weeks = 12 hours)

Required Documentation & Certifications

  • Valid State License (Georgia)
  • Background Check (including education verification) completed prior to start
  • Education Verification (degree related to specialty)
  • Annual NURSYS verification
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required by agency)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • Color Blind Testing (with alternative assessment if needed)
  • Physical Exam (within 1 year)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant acceptable under certain conditions)
  • References: 2 clinical references required by agency
  • Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Most recent employer verification required (can be pending at start with proof)

This position offers a dynamic, team-oriented environment caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical-surgical and telemetry needs. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience who hold current BLS and ACLS certifications. Prior travel experience is not required.
