Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Floating: Mandatory float facility. ICU RNs will float between Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and may float to Medical-Surgical units as needed.
- Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting.
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in ICU (highest required)
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required for ICU and critical care RNs)
Licensing & Location
- License: Must have active RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred. Must live within 75 miles of the facility.

Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, updated annually
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, color blind testing, dysrhythmia/EKG competency (as applicable) required within 12 months of start.
- Facility Specific Forms: Must complete facility-specific HIS forms prior to start.
Notes
- No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position.
- No call or holiday release time off allowed. Release time off (RTO) limited to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive, and no RTO on weekends or day before/after holidays.
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 2 years of recent acute care experience seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment with diverse ICU exposure and mandatory floating responsibilities.
