Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Backfill position requiring strong skills in surgical services.
- Preferred 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1.5 years in screening.
- Required clinical strengths (rated 3s and 4s) in:
- Thoracic
- ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat)
- Neuro
- Oral surgery
Work Environment & Responsibilities
- Surgical services include:
- Adult Neurosurgery
- Adult Otolaryngology
- Adult Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
- Adult Thoracic (excluding transplant)
- Adult Spine (Neuro and Ortho)
- Part of a Level 1 trauma center with advanced specialty care and state-of-the-art facilities.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
- Med system: Pyxis
- On-call requires a 30-minute response time; call is divided by service specialties for circulator and scrub roles. At least one team is always in-house.
- Scrubs provided.
Licensure & Certifications
- Michigan nursing license required in-hand.
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified, no certificates of completion accepted. Must maintain valid card throughout assignment.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified, as applicable.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required only for specific pediatric units (not required for this position).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as applicable.
- Pass/fail competency testing (EKG/Medication) required for ICU, PACU, Tele units; educators available for support.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience preferred, with at least 1.5 years in screening.
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation pay provided for first week (24-36 hours at discretion).
- Two supervisory references required (charge nurse references not accepted).
- Flu vaccination is mandatory starting 10/31/2025 through Winter 2026 with no exemptions allowed (medical or religious). Egg-free vaccine available for allergies.
- COVID vaccination no longer required.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 30 days of start, including all counties lived/worked, sex offender, nationwide checks. Annual renewal required.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- I9 and E-Verify or attestation required.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (N95 masks accepted). Annual renewal required.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required.
- Required immunizations or titers:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screens not accepted. Annual renewal required.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required annually with strict compliance deadlines.
Additional Notes
- Facility-specific documents and agreements must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, sexual harassment policy).
- Candidates must complete required orientation paperwork within 3 weeks of start to avoid removal from assignment.
- Badge and pager return policies apply at assignment end to avoid fees.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, specialty surgical environment within a leading Level 1 trauma center. Candidates must meet strict licensure, certification, and health compliance standards.
