Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lacey, Washington
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Outpatient Infusion RN (Oncology/Hematology)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Setting: Outpatient Cancer Care and Diagnostic Imaging Center
  • Unit: Oncology Infusion Clinic
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 5x8 hour day shifts (No weekends or holidays)
  • Caseload: Approximately 70 patients per day
  • Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Floating: No floating between units required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Local Travelers: Not eligible if residing within 50 miles of the facility
  • Pending License: Accepted

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Oncology/Hematology infusion nursing)
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ONS/ONCC (Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) required, ONC preferred
    • Chemotherapy certification mandatory (hard stop; must have to administer chemotherapy)
  • Experience Considered: Inpatient oncology experience may be considered
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Patient Population

  • 85% Hematology/Oncology patients requiring chemotherapy/immunotherapy
  • 15% Non-oncology infusions (rheumatology, GI, neurology, pulmonology)

Facility & Charting

  • Facility Type: Outpatient Cancer Care and Diagnostic Imaging Center
  • Charting System: EPIC

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must be current within 45 days of start and cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN Trace, Death Master Index, Nationwide and County checks, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification, MVR (if applicable), and international background if applicable
    • Background checks must be updated annually
  • State-Specific Checks: Washington State Patrol Search (WSP/WATCH) required within 90 days of start and updated every 2 years for certain facility types
  • Education Verification: Required for all candidates; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format; 7 years for APN/Subcontractors
  • Skills Checklist: Required annually for applicable units

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations & Testing:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Fit Mask Testing: Required for travel candidates starting on or after 2/5/2024; updated annually

Training & Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Competency Exams: Required as applicable by specialty
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) Certification: Not required for this role
  • WorkRamp Modules:
    • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific modules required via Aya's LMS platform
    • Modules must be completed prior to start
  • Epic Training: Required; candidates must complete Epic modules within a week of orientation

Additional Notes

  • No weekend shifts required
  • No floating between units
  • Local residents within 50 miles are not eligible for travel contract
  • Pending licenses accepted with proper documentation
  • Hard stop on chemotherapy certification; must be current and valid to administer chemo
