Registered Nurse - Critical Care Float Pool (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Weekend, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 hours/week
- Role: Float Pool RN covering various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
- Float Policy: Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
- Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- Ventilator management experience
- Prior travel experience strongly preferred (not explicitly required but highly favored)
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Certification (check unit-specific requirements)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam
- State License Verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification for RNs
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption possible)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Fingerprinting proof required for subcontractors (in-state and out-of-state instructions apply)
This position offers a dynamic weekend night shift opportunity for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with floating across multiple critical care units. Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory. Compliance with extensive background checks, certifications, and health requirements is essential.
