Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Charlotte, North Carolina
Job Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours can be offered
- Patient Ratios: 2:1
- Unit: High-risk Maternity Care (OB)
- Call Requirement: None
- Float Requirement: Float as needed on a special maternity care high-risk OB unit
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- RTO (Return to Office) Policy: No RTO after booking; max 7 days RTO for auto offer
Experience Requirements
- Years of Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred; 3 years preferred for comfort due to unit challenges
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; unit accepts first-time travelers but candidates should have experience in a large/high volume similar setting
Required Skills and Certifications
- Skills:
- Circulate in OR preferred
- Sterile vaginal exam
- Competent in immediate newborn care
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- AWHONN Intermediate (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Unit Details
- Patient Diagnoses: Obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care; also cares for under 16 weeks high-risk patients
- Procedures: Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, medication administration
- Pace: Very fast-paced, busier and higher acuity than typical maternity units
- Systems Used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Provided (blue)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background checks within 90 days for all locations lived in the last 7 years
- Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession (pending verification allowed if license is valid)
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (if fit test failed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Required immunizations and titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption
- Flu vaccination or exemption required annually during flu season (9/1 - 10/31 deadline)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blind test within 1 year of start
- Competency exams as applicable (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG exam with minimum 82% score)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care RNs
Additional Notes
- Unit strongly prefers RNs with OR circulate experience due to fast pace and acuity
- Contracts accepted between 13 and 26 weeks
- No call requirement but float as needed
- Every other weekend work required
- RTO after booking is not allowed onsite and may lead to cancellation
- Scrubs provided on site (blue color)
- Orientation and training modules required prior to start, including Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation and Medication Safety
- Candidates must complete Novant-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
This position is ideal for RNs with maternity and high-risk OB experience who are comfortable in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and are open to travel assignments. First-time travelers are welcome if they have experience in large or high-volume settings.
