Job Opportunity: Telemetry/Med-Surg Nurse (4 Pavilion - Telemetry)

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Unit Details

• Unit: 4 Pavilion - Telemetry
• Beds: 32
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, post-cardiac catheterization (mostly femoral, some radial)
• Common Drips: Nitro (chest pain only), Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, Dopamine (low dose for renal perfusion)
• Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Available 24/7; Charge RNs read strips; RNs review strips each shift
• Nurse Aides: Present with ratios 1:10 (7am-7pm) and 1:15 (7pm-7am)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximeters, specialty beds, telemetry, CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen

Certifications & Experience Requirements

• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Specialty Experience: Med-Surg, Telemetry, Critical Drips required; Chemotherapy experience preferred
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but higher experience implied due to critical drips and telemetry requirements
• Prior Travel Experience: Required (must have prior travel experience)
• RN Responsibilities: Titrate drips as needed
• Charge Nurse Role: May be asked to fill in; cross-training available if interested

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shifts:

  • Day: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Night: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Scheduling: Block scheduling allowed; manager considers requests
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (rotating schedule)
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating with core staff; preferences considered after tenure
• Floating: May float to Med-Surg units (3P or 5P) or Emergency Department to care for boarded patients
• Dress Code:

  • RNs/LPNs: Navy scrubs
  • CNAs/Monitor Techs: Dark grey/pewter scrubs
  • Scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery or patterns
  • Solid undershirts allowed in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
  • Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs

Orientation & Training

• First day: General hospital orientation
• Nursing orientation: Full day for RNs/LPNs
• Computer training: Half day for CNAs, full day for nurses
• Clinical orientation: Two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
• Skills checklist: Abbreviated initial skills checklist due within 90 days

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry nurses comfortable with critical drips and looking for a travel assignment requiring prior travel experience.
