Job Opportunity: MedSurg Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Position Details

Experience & Licensure Requirements

• Years of Experience Required: 1 year in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
• Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license required before start
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) – verify with specific unit job description

• Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
• Local Radius: 60 miles

• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if verification pending
• Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
• Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
• Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (exceptions apply)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Vaccinations/Immunizations:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but declinations are not
  • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
• Additional Testing: CBC and Biochem Panel required for Sterile Processing Techs

Orientation & Facility Specifics

• Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
• Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
• Acknowledgments & Agreements: Various signed documents required prior to start (e.g., Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement)
• System Access: User access requests and system agreements must be completed

• Candidates must be prepared to float within scope as needed.
• Certifications expiring within 30 days of start are not accepted; renewal or scheduled course required before start.
• Radiation badges required for certain specialties (e.g., OR, Cath Lab) but not for this MedSurg RN role.
