Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Critical Care
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights: 7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
- Float Requirement: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units in the hospital (CVPICU, NICU, PICU)
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Experience Requirements
- Years of Pediatric ICU Experience Required: 2 years
- First Time Travelers: Accepted if they meet the experience requirement
- Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
Licensure & Certifications
- License Required: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- Certifications Preferred:
- ECMO, CRRT experience preferred but not mandatory
- Additional Certifications to be aware of:
- ACLS not required for pediatric units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) must be AHA/AAP certified
- TNCC not required for ER RNs
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Prior Travel Experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license or compact license accepted
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and general competency exams required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccination with boosters if needed
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Other: Annual TB questionnaire required
Additional Notes
- Travelers must complete orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- All required documents and certifications must be current and valid at start (no certifications expiring within 30 days of start accepted)
- Radiation badge may be required for certain units (not applicable for this pediatric RN role)
- Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency assignments during hurricane season
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized pediatric critical care environment with a supportive float pool model, requiring strong pediatric ICU experience and relevant certifications.
