Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Pediatric Critical Care float pool RN
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
- Float: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, PICU
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September). Confirm availability before accepting assignments during this period.
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Specialty: Pediatric ICU
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience requirements
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval, depending on unit needs
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and are subject to unit approval
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS: Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
- PALS: Required for all Pediatric units except Pediatric OR (preferred for Peds OR)
- ACLS: Not required for pediatric units
- NRP: Required (AHA/AAP only)
- TNCC: Required except for ER RNs
- EFM: AWHONN Intermediate required for Labor & Delivery, preferred for Mother/Baby, not required for NICU
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
- Competency Exam: Required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment
Background & Verification Requirements
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace
- County, State, National Criminal Checks
- Sex Offender Registry
- FACIS 3
- International searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification required; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations/Vaccines:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of positive with follow-up chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Facility Specific Requirements
- Facility Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours
- First Day Instructions (FDI) provided after clearance
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- Various facility-specific forms and attestations may be required (e.g., residency declaration for compact license holders)
