Registered Nurse (ED) - Travel/Contract Position in Dededo, Guam

Contract Details

Licensure & Eligibility

  • Must have Compact or Guam RN licensure in hand at time of application.
  • Candidates residing in Guam are considered local and not eligible for this travel position.
  • Passport: Current U.S. passport required (Canadian passports not accepted).

Certifications Required

  • Mandatory:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association Provider card required; instructor cards not accepted)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • Advanced NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – must be fully completed prior to start
    • Conscious Sedation (required for ER, ICU, Cath Lab)
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
    • ESI (Emergency Severity Index) Triage Training (required for ER)
  • Certifications expiring within 6 months of assignment start must be renewed before starting.
  • Facility offers onsite renewal options for some certifications.

Shift & Scheduling

  • Travelers are scheduled primarily for one shift (day or night) but cannot request shift preference.
  • Schedule finalized after a 4-day window for shift swaps or coverage.
  • Return to Office (RTO): Limited to no more than 3 consecutive days and max 7 days total during the 13-week contract.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; flexibility required.
  • Holidays: Working on holidays is required; dates determined by unit needs.
  • Overtime is at management discretion and not guaranteed.
  • Travelers should be prepared to pick up additional shifts as needed due to census.

Orientation & Testing

  • Onsite drug calculations and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) exams required during orientation.
    • Pen and paper format, must be completed in person.
    • 10 questions each; 80% passing score required.
    • Two attempts allowed with remediation discussion after first attempt.
  • No pretest or study guide provided; basic knowledge expected.
  • Suggested BKAT refresher video available (not included here).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start (facility does not require but Aya does).
  • Fit Mask Test: Must be completed within 1 year prior to start; specific mask types required.
  • TB Test: Negative PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot within 1 year; if past positive, negative chest x-ray within 5 years plus annual TB questionnaire.
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles): Immune titer or 2 vaccines; 1 booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Mumps: Immune titer or 2 vaccines; 1 booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Rubella: Immune titer or 2 vaccines; 1 booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Immune titer or 3 vaccine series; full series required if negative/equivocal.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; 1 booster if negative/equivocal.
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable.
  • Flu Vaccine: Mandatory during flu season (Sept 1 - June 30); medical exemptions considered with facility-specific form.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver.

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year background check required within 1 year prior to start, including criminal and international searches if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be done annually.
  • Two professional references required for travel/per diem acute care positions.
  • Work history verification for last 10 years required; attestations accepted if verification unavailable.
  • Government-issued photo ID and emergency contact form required prior to start.

Facility Specific Training & Compliance

  • Completion of facility-specific nursing modules required before start (8-12 hours):
    • Pressure Injury Training
    • NIH Stroke Scale Training
    • Alaris IV Pumps
    • Pyxis CareFusion
    • FEMA modules completed onsite
  • Pressure Injury Training and NIH Stroke Scale certificates must be uploaded.
  • Conscious Sedation and ESI training required for ER, ICU, and Cath Lab.
  • Candidates should plan to arrive at least one day before start due to long travel times and time zone differences.

Additional Information

  • Flights are not reimbursed; candidates should budget for round-trip airfare.
  • Parking is free; travelers must register vehicles with HR.
  • Scrub color: Navy blue preferred; any solid color acceptable for other items.
  • Charting system: Allscripts/Sunrise.
  • Travelers will be scheduled through the last day of the contract and should not book return flights before contract completion.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with required certifications and flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, and holidays in an acute care trauma facility in Guam.
