Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Details

  • Specialty: Surgical Services
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1.5+ years in Surgical Services
  • Certification Required: Must be certified NBSTSA or NCCT
  • Procedures: Heavy orthopedic, neurosurgery, robotic, spine, general surgery, gynecology
  • Equipment Experience: Various beds, drills, instrumentation, stealth, microscopes
  • Work Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
  • On Call Requirement: 11 PM - 7 AM for 2 weekdays and one weekend per month
  • Cases per Day: Approximately 25
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Scrubs: Provided

Required Experience

  • Specialty Experience: At least 1.5 years in Surgical Services
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • NBSTSA or NCCT Certification (Surgical Tech certification)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): AHA required, RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required as applicable depending on unit
  • Other Certifications:
    • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC or APHON) if applicable
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for L&D and related units
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for ED, PACU, PICU, Pediatrics
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for L&D and Mother-Baby units
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs/LPNs
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care and related units
    • Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required
  • Other: Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) required for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs

Required Background & Health Documents

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • State-specific exclusions list (New Jersey Department of Treasury)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
    • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
    • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Fit test for respirator use if applicable (on-site fit testing mandatory)
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
    • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Respiratory Medical Clearance: Required prior to start, must be updated annually

Documentation & Compliance

  • Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state requirement)
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
  • Facility Specific:
    • Must complete floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer
    • Must sign job description prior to start
    • Must complete annual education sign-off and review facility-specific education materials
    • Vendor medical clearance form required if history of positive TB
    • Various facility-specific attestations and training modules may be required

  • Scrubs are provided for this assignment.
  • Charting is done using EPIC.
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • On-call shifts and weekend work are part of the schedule.
  • Candidates must comply with all required certifications, background checks, health screenings, and facility-specific policies to clear for assignment.
