Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required
- Prior travel experience required (1st timers not accepted)
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Clinical Skills & Work Setting
- Overflow IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit)
- Arrhythmia management including cardioversion
- Cardiac conditions: CHF, chest pain, stable arrhythmias (A-Fib, SVT, bradycardia)
- Renal and pulmonary conditions (COPD, pulmonary edema, PE, DVT)
- Surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
- Occasional vascular, orthopedic, or CVA patient overflow
- Post cardiac catheterization care including TR Bands
- Experience with cardiac drips and hemodynamic monitoring post PCI
- Knowledge of cardiac drips: amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, nitroglycerin, milrinone, heparin, argatroban, aggrastat, bumex, lasix
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge and cardiac drip management
Unit Details
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:5-6
- 32 beds
- Unit systems: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Return to office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Weekend shifts: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes, within the facility
- Call: Rare, 2-hour response time; travelers typically do not manage Precedex
- Holidays: Required to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
Compliance & Orientation
- Full compliance required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Clinical screening required to determine fit before final manager approval
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = 14 hours)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid State License (Georgia)
- Background check within 30 days of start
- Education verification (degree related to specialty)
- Annual NURSYS verification
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (no pending results allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers:
- TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- TB questionnaire (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation)
- Color blind testing (required for all candidates)
- General competency exam (required by agency)
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted at same rate
- Call is rare but possible
- Floating within the facility is required
- Travelers typically do not manage Precedex sedation
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with strong cardiac and intermediate care skills who meet the certification and compliance requirements and have prior travel experience.
