Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description
- 13-week contract assignment
- Work schedule includes every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
- On-call requirement: 11 PM to 7 AM for 2 weekdays and one weekend per month
- Approximately 25 cases per day
- Types of procedures: heavy orthopedic, neurological, robotic, spine, general surgery, gynecology
- Equipment experience required: various beds, drills, instrumentation, stealth, microscopes
- Charting system used: EPIC
- Scrubs provided
- First-time travelers accepted
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 1.5+ years of experience in Surgical Services (highest required)
- Must be certified by NBSTSA or NCCT
Prior Travel Experience
- Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Required Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for many adult critical care units and specific roles; check with program coordinator for unit-specific requirements
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, and Special Care Nursery
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – Required as applicable for adult and pediatric chemo certified nurses
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Beginner and intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and Labor & Delivery RNs
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs; includes online and in-person training
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and stroke centers
- Other Technical Certifications – Required as applicable (e.g., ARRT, RCIS, ASCP, NBSTSA, NCCT, NHA, etc.)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
- Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- TB testing (IGRA or 2-step PPD) within required timeframes; additional clearance if history of positive TB
- Immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as applicable
- Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- Competency Exams: Medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and other required exams must be completed within 72 hours of signing and within 12 months of start
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date for New Jersey candidates
Additional Information
- Must complete facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start
- Annual education sign-off and various CEU requirements depending on specialty and unit
- Orientation and safety manual acknowledgments required
- On-site fit testing mandatory for respirator use
- Facility floating policy applies for all new assignments and site transfers
