Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Float Requirement: Mandatory float between multiple ICU units including Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU. May also float to Medical-Surgical units as needed.
  • Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting
  • Remote Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in ICU
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required for ICU and critical care RNs)

Licensure & Location

  • Must have an active Illinois RN license (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Locals accepted; preferred candidates live within 75 miles of the facility

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella with 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing as required

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Must be willing and able to float as per facility needs within ICU and possibly to other units
  • No block scheduling available

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, Level 1 Trauma Center environment with diverse ICU exposure and a supportive orientation period.
