Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital
Level: Level II Trauma Center
Beds: 426 staffed beds
Charting System: EPIC


Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 4 ten-hour shifts (typically 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM with 30-minute lunch)
  • Off-hours night and weekend call requirements (typically 7-10 days per month)

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year Electrophysiology (EP) experience required
  • Will accept first-time travelers (no prior travel experience required)

Required Skills & Procedures

  • Circulate procedure experience/skills required
  • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
  • Electrophysiology procedure skills including:
    • Arrhythmia induction
    • Cardioversion
    • Insertion/programming of AICDs (Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators)
    • Pacemaker insertion
    • Tilt table study

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color blind testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor & delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10 panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training & Documents (Required for RNs)

  • Stroke education module and attestation (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI prevention training for adult and pediatric patients
  • Preventing pressure injury training
  • Language services training
  • CAUTI education training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient transportation with oxygen education
  • Suicide risk and environmental assessment training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation training and attestation
  • Baxter pump interoperability training
  • Patient bedside rounding module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Mobile heartbeat alarm module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Ventricular assist device awareness training
  • AME blood administration module (except case managers, behavioral health/psych, home health)
  • New employee orientation module
  • 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RNs except home health)
  • ED handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart training module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health)
  • Chaperone policy training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or updated module)
  • EPIC testing or training (for RNs with EPIC experience)

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • This is a travel/contract role with a 13-week assignment.
  • The facility uses EPIC for charting.
  • The hospital is part of a large health system and is a Level II trauma center.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with electrophysiology experience looking for a travel opportunity in a busy acute care hospital setting with specialized procedural skills.
