Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (54-bed cardiac unit)
Job Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Population:
- Cardiac telemetry patients monitored remotely and on unit
- Conditions include heart failure, STEMI/NSTEMI heart attacks, stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain
- May take overflow medical patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5-6; can increase to 1:7 during call-ins
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular/Telemetry
- Years of Experience Required: 1 year
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
- Locals Accepted: No, must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, must be completed through BlueCloud
- Additional Certifications (as applicable): PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, Tech Cert Verification, State License Verification, Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for Monitor Techs
Compliance & Documentation
- Background Check: Required within 90 days of start, covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in; includes SSN trace, criminal, sex offender checks, and motor vehicle report (if applicable)
- Education Verification: Diploma/transcript or education verification required
- Physical Exam: Required
- TB Testing: Negative 2-step PPD or Qgold within 1 year; T-Spots not accepted; if positive PPD, must have chest x-ray within past 12 months
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles): Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Mumps: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination
- Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Drug Testing: Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
- Flu Vaccination: Required for flu season (Oct-May) or approved medical/religious exemption prior to start; documentation must be on file by 12/15
- COVID-19: Medical and religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation
- Photo: Passport-style photo with solid background required for badge
Additional Information
- Candidates will be required to complete facility-specific modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start; paid for completion
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement required before start
- On-site EKG exam required for Monitor Techs (not applicable for RN role)
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac telemetry unit with a supportive team and a focus on quality patient care. Night shift nurses will manage complex cardiac patients with telemetry monitoring and cardiac drips in a fast-paced environment.
