Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Unit: IMC/General Onsite Telemetry
  • Shift: Nights (3x12 or 4x12 shifts; 18:45 - 07:15)
  • Average Daily Census: 38 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float to like units as needed within scope
  • Block Scheduling: Open to discussion with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License Requirement: Must have an active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • First-Timers Accepted: Yes
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:

    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring (unit and remote)
  • Cardiovascular Case Skills:

    • Post Cardiac Angiogram
    • Post Myocardial Infarction (MI)
    • Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization and Surgery
    • Sheath Removal, TR band management
  • Gastrointestinal:

    • Feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal:

    • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
    • Renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:

    • Accessing ports
    • Arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and peripheral line care/management
    • PICC line management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Management:

    • Heparin protocols
    • Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (with and without titration)
    • PCA management
  • Neurological/Psychiatric:

    • Care for CVA (stroke) patients
    • Experience with surgical drains
  • Respiratory:

    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
    • Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills:

    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks and verifications as per Illinois state and facility policies
  • Physical exam and health documentation within one year of start
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and/or documentation for: TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required prior to start
  • Various state-specific searches and registry checks required within 30 days of start

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in telemetry or intermediate care settings, comfortable with night shifts and working every other weekend, and who hold an active Illinois nursing license. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
