Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Seattle, Washington
Facility: Providence Swedish First Hill Campus
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of experience for a travel/contract position in a Level III or IV NICU unit. The nurse will primarily work with neonates born at 23-24 weeks gestation.
Key Responsibilities
- Care for neonates in Level III/IV NICU (no ECMO cases)
- Manage respiratory support including CPAP/BiPap, High Frequency Vents, Oscillators, and Vents
- Administer blood and blood products
- Perform cardioversion/defibrillation
- Use cooling/warming blankets and feeding tubes
- Manage PICC and central lines, syringe pumps
- Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries
- Floating may be required to different campuses or units such as Issaquah or Edmonds SCN, Pediatrics, or NBN (newborn nursery) with care limited to infants
- Block scheduling available (3 or more shifts in a row possible)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of specialty experience in NICU nursing
- Must be open to floating to different campuses
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Other certifications may be required based on clinical track and facility policies (e.g., Chemotherapy, EFM)
Licensure
- Active nursing license valid in Washington State (compact license accepted)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Education verification for nursing degree
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start
- Respirator fit testing (annual, travel only)
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years
Additional Requirements
- Must complete Providence-specific mandatory training modules via WorkRamp LMS prior to start, including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for NICU and related roles
- Facility-specific float policy acknowledgment
- May be required to complete Epic training modules depending on assignment location
- Photo ID and other standard credentialing documents required
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Work Environment
- NICU unit with approximately 77 beds (average census 50)
- Rare floating to Pediatrics or other campuses, but flexibility required
- No admitting of babies as a traveler (dedicated admit nurse handles this)
Notes
- Previous permanent employees of any Providence affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for this travel position.
- Active compact nursing licenses are honored at all Swedish facilities.
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs comfortable with high-acuity neonatal care and flexible floating assignments within the Providence system in Washington.
