Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Unit: Cardio Thoracic ICU (CTICU)
  • Patient Ratios: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
  • Experience Required: Greater than 1 year in Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have relevant CTICU or critical care experience
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to other high-volume cardiac ICUs
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Special Requirements:
    • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
    • Experience in a high acuity cardiac ICU setting

Required Certifications

  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (minimum 80%) required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for all ICU units including CTICU

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred

Facility-Specific Training and Documentation

  • Stroke Education Module and Attestation (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training for Adult and Pediatric patients
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)
  • EPIC Testing or Training (optional but highly encouraged)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption process if applicable

Work History and Documentation

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Verification of last 7 years of employment required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain tech roles (not RN-specific)
