Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Supports patients for all major surgical services.
- Unit supports all surgical/procedural populations except patients requiring critical care services.
- Care provided in pre-op, Phase I, and Phase II recovery for both pediatric and adult populations.
- Department covers 34 ORs across 2 floors:
- 1st floor includes 6 ORs, 2 cysto suites, Pediatric GI/Lithotripsy room, and CT/MRI prep/recovery with a high volume of pediatric patients.
- 2nd floor includes 28 ORs servicing Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, and Pulmonary Lab cases.
- Candidates should be prepared to care for patients of all ages in pre-op and recovery phases.
Special Procedures & Equipment
- Regional anesthesia
- Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
- Equipment used: Hoyer lift, bladder scanner, Accuvein
Work Schedule & Environment
- Patient ratio: 1:2
- 2-3 scheduled weekends per contract
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Candidates must be comfortable working with pediatric patients
- May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring extended stay or relief duties as assigned by unit manager
Required Experience & Certifications
- Preferred background in PACU or Pre/Post Op experience
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Additional Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and education verification as applicable
- State nursing license verification (active Louisiana or Compact License required)
- NURSYS license verification
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations and health documentation including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (as applicable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or completed vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or booster)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine series, or booster)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Skills checklist and employment application with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps
