Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Unit may assign you to an "Emergency Team" during events, requiring you to stay until the event passes or be part of a relief team.
- Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit manager.
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (unit accepts first-time travelers)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Special Procedures Experience: TPN, wound care, drain care, Foley catheter care, narcotic administration
- Patient Ratio Experience: 1:5 or 1:6
- Electronic Medical Record Experience: Epic required
- LTAC Experience: Not required
- Scheduling: Block scheduling considered
Compliance & Documentation
- Valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required)
- Background checks including 7-year and lifetime criminal checks, SSN trace, education verification, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks
- State nursing license verification (active Louisiana or Compact License required)
- NURSYS license verification
- Competency exam specific to specialty (minimum 80%, updated annually)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Employment application/resume with 7 years employment history and gap explanations
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted)
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required for ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (positive antibody, completed vaccine series, or booster)
- Varicella (positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series)
- TB testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 12 months; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if positive
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to comply with emergency preparedness protocols, especially during hurricane season (June 1 - Nov 30).
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Photo for badge must be a recent, full-color passport-style photo without filters or obstructions.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with support for first-time travel nurses and a focus on emergency readiness.
