Job Opportunity: Cardiac Stepdown Nurse (10SE Cardiac Stepdown - HVI)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: 10 Southeast Heart & Vascular Institute
• Beds: 32 total (22 Stepdown, 12 Floor; all private rooms)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 1 RN to 3 patients
  • Floor: 1 RN to 6 patients
• Nurse Aids: Yes, Clinical Associates with a ratio of 1 CA to 8-10 patients (goal of 4-5 CAs 24/7)
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High-flow oxygen
• Telemetry: Yes, with Cardiac Monitor Techs interpreting strips; RNs also read strips

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Cardiac Surgery Post-op: CABG, MID CABs, Maze procedure, Valve replacements, Tendyne, Mitral clip, LVAD, Heart transplants, TAVRs
• Vascular Surgery Post-op: AAA repair, CEA, femoral bypass, angiograms, amputations
• Cardiology: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart failure, Watchman device, Cardiac Cath procedures (PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, pacemakers)

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Experience: Cardiac and vascular nursing experience required
• Skills:

  • Ability to titrate drips (Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, Dobutamine)
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shifts: Nights, three 12-hour shifts
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Call/Standby: No call or standby required; overtime available
• Floating: Yes, to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
• Dress Code: Solid Royal Blue and White scrubs
• Supervision: Unit Charge Nurse and House Supervisors available 24/7
• Team Atmosphere: Noted for excellent, quality care and strong teamwork

Additional Notes

• Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
• Submission restrictions apply for candidates within the WVU system
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
