Nursing Contract Opportunity - State College, Pennsylvania

Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care in the Emergency Department based on Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. Care spans from neonate through geriatric populations. Position includes scheduled on-call assignments as needed due to fluctuating patient volumes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Triage patients entering emergency care, prioritizing based on physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting.
  • Document detailed nursing history including chief complaint and health status.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care, ensuring supplies and equipment are available and functional.
  • Continuously update care plans based on ongoing assessments and include discharge planning.
  • Manage complications and emergencies according to facility policies and ENA standards.
  • Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care.
  • Document patient responses to interventions.
  • Provide health education to patients and families, including treatment explanations and discharge instructions.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), with renewal every two years.
  • Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated emotional tolerance, sound judgment, tact, sensitivity, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with EPIC Computer Charting is preferred.

Specialty Experience

  • Nursing experience consistent with Emergency Department standards (years of experience not explicitly stated).
