Job Opportunity: PACU Nurse (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide care for patients pre-op, and during Phase I and Phase II recovery after surgery.
  • Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and patient care in Phase I recovery.
  • Critical care skills required to assess incision sites, monitor body temperature, and track patient stability or complications.
  • Experience in critical care and surgical nursing is a plus.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a critical care RN (ER & ICU experience may substitute for PACU experience).
  • Valid State of Hawaii nursing license required by start of assignment.
  • Valid BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification recommended and may be required.
  • Other specialty certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) preferred and may be required for specific positions.
  • Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exception required prior to contract start.

Equipment Used

  • Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCD's, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP Monitors, Phillips Monitors

Shift and Schedule

  • Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours.
  • Possible shifts include Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays.
  • Work locations vary between ASU and PACU units.
  • No guarantee of specific hours or shift preference.
  • On-call shifts 0-3 times per month (8-hour night shifts and 24-hour weekend/holiday shifts).

Additional Information

  • Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for employee health appointment on Friday.
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
