Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Alton, Illinois
Facility Type: Skilled Nursing and Rehab Units in a Long-Term Care (LTC) Facility


Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: Even/Odd weekend rotation (every other weekend required upon request)
  • Patient Ratios: Direct patient care for up to 20 residents; average daily census 72
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Attire: Any shade of blue scrubs
  • Charting System: PowerChart
  • Parking: Free parking available
  • Mileage Reimbursement: None

Experience & Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Licensure: Must have license in hand to submit; proof of license required before start
  • Certifications Required:
    • IV Certification (must be obtained before starting)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Not applicable
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend rotation required upon request
  • Special Skills:
    • Rehab experience with strong Med/Surg and acute care helpful but not required
    • Dementia training/experience highly recommended
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Experience working closely with CNA/HCA
    • Familiarity with special equipment such as lifting equipment

Important Notes

  • Must provide proof of license; pending licenses accepted only with proof
  • Call-outs require more than 24 hours’ notice
  • Restrictions on requesting time off (RTO) apply; cannot take every holiday off

Background Checks & Compliance Requirements

  • Background checks required within 1 year of start and updated annually, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • County searches for last 7 years
    • Nationwide sex offender check
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months; instant tests acceptable; cannot start with drug screen pending
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, updated annually (can be completed by NP or PCP)
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine record or declination within past 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step TST, Qgold/Tspot, or chest X-ray if positive PPD)
    • TB Questionnaire (if positive TB)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (or declination/booster if titers negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B declination required
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, history of chickenpox, or declination/booster
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or medical/religious exemption required (2025-26 season)
    • COVID-19 Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions accepted with testing requirements for Illinois candidates
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start required
  • Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and unit-specific competency exams required
