Position Details

Experience & Licensure

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty
• Licensure: North Carolina or Compact License in hand
• First-Timer: Acceptable
• Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
• Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP)

On-Call & Weekend Requirements

• On-call one Saturday per month (8:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
• Weekend coverage required

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Flu vaccination mandatory (no exemptions)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers required (no exemptions)
• Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
• Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required for flu season hires (October–March)
• Polio vaccine or attestation required

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, and international checks if applicable
• Employment application and 7 years of work history required
• Two professional references from employment within 12 months, including at least one supervisor
• Skills checklist updated annually
• Facility-specific competency exams and online modules must be completed prior to or during orientation
• Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Additional Notes

• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation deadlines
• Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation for applicable units
• Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge required at orientation (not applicable to RRTs)

This position is suitable for nurses with oncology experience who meet licensure and certification requirements and are willing to work specified shifts with weekend and on-call responsibilities. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
