Job Opportunity: MRI Technologist (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Job Details

  • Position: MRI Technologist
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (1830-0700) on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years
  • First-time Travelers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes
  • Block Schedule Accommodation: No
  • Pending State License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC only (Not required for Pediatric Stepdown)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for NICU
  • Tech Certification Verification (National) – Must provide certification number for verification; surgical tech certification or grandfather clause applies
  • State License: MRI Techs are not required to have a state license
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required, including foreign equivalency for internationally educated candidates
  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 12 months of start (85% passing score)
  • Color Blind Testing required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024 (80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for certain units (Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor & delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

  • Multiple mandatory training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:

    • Stroke Education (not required for some campuses)
    • CLABSI Prevention Training
    • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education Training
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
    • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
    • Patient Bedside Rounding
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • AME Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation Module
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for MRI Techs)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (updated May 2024)
  • EPIC testing or training required for RNs with EPIC experience (optional for MRI Techs)

This position offers a guaranteed schedule with weekend shifts and requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in Radiology/Cardiology. Candidates must be prepared to complete extensive background checks, certifications, health screenings, and facility-specific training modules.
