  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

  • Floating: Yes, will float within scope to other high-volume cardiac ICUs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes (RTO > 7 days requires approval)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience required
  • First-timers: Accepted if they have Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Patient Ratios

  • Average 1:2 during days and nights

Certifications Required

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Special Requirements

  • Must be proficient with Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • High acuity cardiac ICU experience required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation for internationally educated RNs
  • Education verification including transcripts if needed
  • Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps > 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for all ICU units including telemetry and ER)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccines, or documented history)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly preferred for certain specialties (not required)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred

Facility-Specific Training and Documents

  • Stroke education module and attestation (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI prevention training for adult and pediatric patients
  • Preventing pressure injury training
  • Language services training
  • CAUTI education training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient transportation with oxygen education
  • Suicide risk and environmental assessment training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation training and attestation
  • Baxter pump interoperability training
  • Patient bedside rounding module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular assist device awareness training
  • AME blood administration module (except case managers, behavioral health, home health)
  • New employee orientation module
  • 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart training module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health)
  • Chaperone policy training (required for RNs and allied health)
  • EPIC testing or training (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
  • Vaccination booster medical exemption form if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Floating to other high-volume cardiac ICUs is required
  • This is a high acuity cardiac ICU setting requiring knowledgeable and experienced RNs
  • Pending licenses accepted with restrictions
  • Background checks and verifications are comprehensive and must be current
