Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS Tele RN Days)

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years in MS/Telemetry
  • Experience Needed:
    • Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing
    • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry unit experience
  • Preferred Experience: Community hospital experience
  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Licensure & Certifications

  • License: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for pediatric units only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Not required for ER RNs
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC acceptable
  • Certification Notes:
    • Certifications expiring within 30 days of start are not accepted; renewal or scheduled course required before start

  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes (at a reduced rate)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Primary Source License Verification: Required, must be active and unencumbered
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam updated annually
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and general competency exams required
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4-6 hours for this location
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
  • Facility Specific Documents: Job description acknowledgment required prior to start
  • Fit Mask Testing: Conducted onsite during orientation; facial hair must be shaved or trimmed prior
  • Radiation Badge: Required only for specific units (not required for this MS Tele position)

Additional Notes

  • Floating within scope is required to meet facility needs
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
  • Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season
  • Facility allows some flexibility with block scheduling upon approval
