Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Rehab) - Travel/Contract

Location: Hazleton, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Rehab)
  • Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Schedule: Every Other Weekend (Saturday/Sunday), Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Acute Inpatient Rehab, Blood Glucose Monitoring, Care and Management of Ports)
  • Charge Nurse Experience: Preferred but not required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Floating: Not required
  • Call: No call required
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Licensure: PA or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (see below)

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Must be AHA certified (ARC may be acceptable with approval)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units (ER, ICU, L&D, etc.) - verify based on unit
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for pediatric specialties and ER (if applicable)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure): Required for L&D and NICU (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER and Pediatric ER (or TCRN certificate if TNCC unavailable)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required for L&D (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for Behavioral Health, ER, ICU, L&D, Mother Baby, Med Surg, MS/Tele, Pediatric ER, OR, PACU, PCU (verify unit)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, OR, remote Telephone Triage, Transitional Skilled Unit, and outpatient Infusion
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RN candidates, must be completed within 12 months of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required annually for all RNs except specified exceptions

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • RN License: PA or Compact RN license required and must be verified prior to start
  • Background Checks:
    • Comprehensive background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM check
    • HHS/OIG check
    • Fingerprinting (PA Department of Human Services) required within 90 days of start
    • Education verification
    • State-specific searches including Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search, PATCH, Medicheck
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel or 9-panel (without THC) drug screen within 60 days of start required
  • References: Minimum 2 professional references from employment within last 12 months
  • Employment Application: Complete 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 90 days

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Physician statement within 2 months of start
  • Vaccinations & Titers:
    • TDAP within 10 years
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series required (declinations not accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Flu Shot: Required for RNs and Allied Health during flu season (Oct-May); declination allowed only with facility-specific form and masking policy adherence
    • COVID-19: Fully vaccinated or signed declination with facility-specific form
  • TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest x-ray as per guidelines; annual updates not required
  • Respirator Clearance: Required for all candidates starting 04/07/2025 and beyond; annual medical clearance for respirator use

Additional Information

  • Patient Care: Acute inpatient rehab focus with blood glucose monitoring and port care
  • Scheduling: Weekend requirement every other weekend; no block scheduling
  • No floating or call responsibilities
  • Local Rate Differential applies (pay details excluded)
  • First-time travelers accepted

This position requires a professional who is detail-oriented, compliant with all licensure, certification, and health requirements, and comfortable working night shifts in an acute inpatient rehab setting.
