Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Position Overview

- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to other high-volume cardiac ICUs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- High acuity cardiac ICU requiring proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience required (higher years supersede any other stated)
- First-time travel nurses accepted if they have Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
Licensure
- Must have or be eligible for Connecticut RN license
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
- Must apply for CT license within 72 hours if not already licensed
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required (including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs)
- Work history verification for last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Employment application must include 7-year work history
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all ICU units including CVICU
- Other competency exams as applicable
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not required here)
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required

- Stroke Education Module and Attestation (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training for Adult and Pediatric patients
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Awareness Training
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)
- EPIC Testing or Training (highly encouraged for those with Epic experience)
- Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption process available
Additional Notes
- Must be proficient with Swan-Ganz monitoring
- Floating to other high-volume cardiac ICUs required
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
