Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in ICU
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (required for ICU RNs)
Work Environment & Responsibilities
- Facility Type: Level 1 Trauma Center
- Float Policy: Mandatory float facility. ICU RNs will float between multiple ICU units including Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU. May also float to Medical-Surgical units as needed.
- Orientation: First week orientation and precepting on day shift
- Scheduling: No block scheduling
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no holiday or weekend RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday
- Local Candidates: Locals accepted and preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility

Prior Travel Experience

Required Documentation & Compliance (Summary)
- Government-issued photo ID
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 12 months)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccinations or positive titer
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing (required within 12 months of start)
Additional Notes
- References and employment application required per agency standards (not a client requirement)
- Must comply with facility-specific forms and rules of behavior
- Must maintain all required certifications and health documents updated annually
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 2 years of recent acute care ICU experience who are comfortable with floating between ICU units and working a 3x12 schedule in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment. Local candidates within 75 miles are preferred.
