Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with holiday rotation
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs/float between like units
- Unit Description:
Digestive Disease Inpatient Units (21 beds) providing care for patients 17 years and older with complex GI diagnoses, including Bariatric and Autologous Islet Cell Programs. The unit uses a modified modular nursing model to enhance teamwork. - Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- First-Timers: Accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis within 60 miles radius
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Important Notes
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane Season: From June through November, all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; travelers should consider this before accepting assignments during this period.
- Schedule Flexibility: Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval and unit needs.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Includes SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license must be active and unencumbered
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers including Tdap (within 10 years), TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or vaccination or declination)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and general competency exam required
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start is mandatory
Additional Information
- Floating: Nurses must be willing to float to similar units as needed
- Parking: Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
