Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg/Tele Float Pool

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Unit Overview

• Float pool covers multiple units:

  • Most frequent: 6N (36 beds), 7N (29 beds)
  • Others: 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), Critical Care (20 beds)
• Patient rooms are mostly private.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios generally 1:5-6 for day and night shifts; occasionally up to 1:7 near shift end depending on acuity.

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam (RN with ACLS expected to pass easily).
• No drips titration required.
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips.
• Float pool RNs assigned a "parent unit" and care for basic telemetry patients within scope of practice.

Years of Specialty Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry experience recommended based on complexity and certification requirements.

Prior Travel Experience: Not required. First-time travelers are acceptable.

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses

• Oncology (permanent staff administer chemotherapy)

Nursing Duties & Environment

• No titration of drips (heparin, insulin, nitro, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, etc.) required.
• CPAP and BiPAP respiratory equipment present; respiratory therapists manage these.
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; monitor techs available but RNs must interpret strips.
• Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge nurse does not take patients, night charge nurse does.
• CNAs are present on all units to assist.

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• Holiday shifts included in rotation with permanent staff
• Float pool RNs receive unit assignments before shift start from clinical coordinator
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the unit

Dress Code

• Royal Blue scrubs for RNs
