Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: Day Shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
- On-Call Requirement: Yes
- 1-2 call days per week starting at 5 PM
- 1 call weekend every 5 weeks (Saturday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM; 48 hours total)
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities
- Scrub Color: OR-Hospital issued scrubs
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free parking with a pass provided at badge pickup
Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Operating Room)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required for all clinical staff
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for all RNs
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for MS and ER units (not specifically for OR)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required except for ER RNs
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ER (not specifically for OR)
- Special Requirements: Radiation badge required and must be provided by the agency
- License Verification: Primary source verification required; SC license processing times vary (3-5 weeks for permanent, 24-48 hours for walk-through/temp license if eligible)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the same unit
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Must be current within 90 days of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire
Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN trace, county, statewide, sex offender, national criminal, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted if verification not possible
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style color photo with solid light background, frontal view, shoulders up, no hats or sunglasses
- Facility Specific:
- Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer, not a phone
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
- Completion of confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
- Physical assessment for sterile processors if applicable (not for OR RN)
Additional Notes
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift
- Local radius for travel is 60 miles; local candidates accepted
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval depending on unit needs
This position is ideal for an experienced OR RN with at least 2 years in the specialty, who is flexible with on-call duties and floating, and able to meet comprehensive licensure, certification, and health requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
