Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center capabilities, including a Pediatric Emergency Department. The unit currently experiences high patient-to-nurse ratios (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during holidays or high census).
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Start Date: ASAP
- Weekend Work: Yes, 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may be scheduled for 1 to all 3 days each weekend
- Holidays: Must be willing to work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); only one holiday off allowed
- Floating: Yes, may float to Pediatrics
- On Call: No
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (Level I trauma experience required)
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- EPIC charting experience
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required (unit accepts first-time travelers)
Required Certifications
- Current State Nursing License (Michigan)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN as a substitute
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - Preferred/required for ER placements
Preferred Experience
- Continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
- Triage experience
Unit Environment
- Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center
- Pediatric Emergency Department
- High patient-to-nurse ratios (1:5-6, up to 1:8 during busy times)
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation at time of submittal; no late submissions accepted
- Completion of facility-specific modules (some completed onsite at orientation, others prior to start)
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and criminal history
- Health documents including physical exam, immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap), drug screening, and TB testing
- OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form to be completed prior to start
- References: 2 previous employer references required
- Resume with 7-year work history required
- Skill inventory checklist required
Summary
This is a travel contract position for an ER Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of Level I trauma experience, required certifications, and willingness to work weekends and major holidays. The role involves working in a high-acuity, fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center with pediatric and adult emergency care. Prior travel experience is not required, making this suitable for first-time travel nurses.
