Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Toledo, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Role: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse
- Required Experience: Operating room nursing experience specifically in cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and hybrid vascular surgery.
- Shift: 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM (10-hour shifts) with on-call requirement
- Responsibilities:
- Perform scrub duties during surgical procedures under direct supervision of the physician and circulating RN
- Assist in departmental operations as directed
- Provide care across all patient life stages: infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and end-of-life patients
- Care for special populations including bariatric, pediatric, and MRDD patients
- Demonstrate clinical competency, critical thinking, and accountability in patient care
- Administer medications appropriately and monitor effects
- Follow approved nursing practices and proper use of equipment/devices
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with cardiovascular/cardiothoracic OR experience
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but must have mandatory operating room nursing experience in the specified surgical areas (implies prior specialty experience)

Certifications & Licenses
- Required:
- Current RN license (Primary Source Verification required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (required for all RNs except Med Surg and Behavioral Health)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health; must be updated annually or biannually as applicable)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - when applicable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for ER, preferred for RRT
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ER
- Competency Exams:
- Unit-specific competency exam (must be updated if >3 year gap between assignments)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam if cardiac monitoring required
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting required only for certain departments (Early Learning Center or Outpatient Behavioral Health)
- Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Online Abuser Registry search required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Fit mask test (3M 1870+ or 1860s) within 12 months of start, updated annually (except Lab staff)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B as per facility policy
- Seasonal flu vaccination required (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Two professional references within 2 years
- Employment application and verification of last 3 years of employment
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Radiation badge required for Cath Lab assignments (provided by facility)
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations required upon hire (e.g., background authorization, respirator medical evaluation questionnaire)
Additional Notes
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- ASAP start dates preferred
- Demonstrated ability to care for diverse patient populations and special needs groups
- Must demonstrate critical thinking and clinical competency in all nursing duties
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs looking for a 13-week travel contract in Ohio with a reputable medical center. Prior travel experience is not required.
