Job Description

  • Position in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.
  • Extension opportunity (current assignment continuation).

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Required years of experience: At least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting and in a similar area to the pending assignment.
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or American Red Cross; RQI acceptable. Must be current.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for MS/Tele and many other units. Must be current.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Not required for MS/Tele.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required.
  • State Nursing License: Primary source verification within 30 days of start. Must be valid and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
  • Tech Cert Verification: Not applicable for MS/Tele.
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search
    • SSN Trace
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • Education verification
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
  • Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending but must complete prior to extension.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history, including at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care.
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • TB questionnaire if history of positive TB.
  • Immunizations required:
    • Rubeola (Measles): 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Mumps: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer.
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
  • Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Candidates cannot skip training videos.
  • Pass/Fail EKG and medication testing required onsite during orientation for bedside RNs (except OR).
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for review before orientation.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with a break in employment of less than 6 months at this healthcare system may have some requirements waived (e.g., pass/fail testing, module completion).
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed both through the agency and at the facility.
