Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist

Location: Sitka, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Assist in surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision for various advanced and complex surgeries.
• Anticipate surgeon preferences for materials and instruments and prepare accordingly.
• Set up sterile tables with necessary instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions.
• Disassemble, clean, and prepare instruments for sterilization within scope of duties.
• Monitor supplies and instruments to ensure sterility and maintain quality assurance.
• Inventory and order supplies as needed.
• Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the department.
• Provide input on policy, procedure, and patient care standard changes.
• Serve as backup on-call for emergency surgical cases requiring two surgical technicians.
• Participate in assigned committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a technologist training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or equivalent.
• Surgical Technologist Certification (CST).
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience preferred.
• Knowledge:

  • Anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical instrumentation and materials.
  • Wound healing and complications.
  • Normal growth, development, and life cycle changes related to nursing care.
• Skills:

  • Sterile technique and processing.
  • Patient positioning.
• Abilities:

  • Respond effectively to requests made during surgery.

Additional Information

• Must have or obtain flu vaccination.
• Must have all required certifications at time of application.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Applicants must live at least 50+ miles away from the facility location.
