Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool
Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: Float Pool (multi-unit float nurse)
Shift: 12-hour shifts, day/night rotation or single shift (traveler's preference), typically Friday through Sunday
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: May be asked to participate in holiday rotation (split between groups)
Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling with manager approval
- Schedule made 4 weeks at a time
- Flexible to help fill gaps in permanent staffing
- Unit assignments sent via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start
Units & Patient Ratios
- CCU (Critical Care Unit): 10 beds, nurse:patient ratio 1:2-3
- IMC (Intermediate Care): 30 beds, ratio 1:4-6
- Medical-Surgical Level 7: 27 beds, ratio 1:5-6
- Medical-Surgical Level 8: 48 beds, ratio 1:5-8
- Skilled Care: 33 beds, ratio 1:8-10
- ED (Emergency Department): 15 beds, ratio TBD
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) if working in CCU or ED
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience required
- Prefer 1 year ICU experience or 1 year ED experience
- Ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
- Must be flexible, adaptable, with multi-functional expertise and strong problem-solving skills
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Comfortable managing nurse:patient ratios ranging from 1:2 up to 1:10
- Able to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU
- Manage critical drips independently
- Perform ADLs (activities of daily living), vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugar monitoring
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo) alongside RT staff
- Read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms (monitor techs available 24/7)
- Work with charge nurses who may take assignments as needed
- Collaborate with nurse aides/patient care techs (ratios 1:7-15)
Orientation
- 1 day unit-specific orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
- Orientation provided for only one unit before floating independently
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
Additional Notes
- Must have unexpired driver’s license and disclose any licensing issues at submission
- 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate submissions
- No call or standby requirements
