Job Opportunity: Rural Registered Nurse
Location: Hoonah, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to patients of all ages, from infants to elderly, including after-hours urgent/emergent clinic care. Perform nursing duties using the nursing process to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and socio-cultural needs of patients and families. Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently during lighter patient loads.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and care for patients of all ages and conditions using nursing care principles and procedures.
- Develop and revise individualized plans of care in collaboration with primary care providers.
- Observe, assess, and interpret patient conditions; document nursing interventions, health teaching, and therapeutic measures.
- Administer therapeutic measures as ordered within scope of practice and department protocols.
- Operate specialized equipment and utilize computer-based health information systems correctly.
- Perform triage for patients requesting non-routine clinic appointments and direct them to appropriate levels of care.
- Maintain a safe and aseptic environment using sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Maintain equipment and medical/nursing supplies; identify and correct safety concerns promptly.
- Provide weekend, on-call, and secondary coverage for moderate complexity lab functions including phlebotomy, QA/QI, lab specimen testing and documentation, proficiency testing, and shipping.
- Perform respiratory therapy functions such as pulmonary function testing, peak flow tests, 12-lead EKGs, nebulizer treatments, and oxygen therapy.
- Support radiology functions including registering/editing x-rays, taking films, cassette maintenance, and documentation.
- Assist with case management and referral care coordination as needed.
Requirements
- Active Alaska RN License required at time of application.
- Flu vaccination required.
- X-Ray experience preferred but not required.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, PALS, NRP, ATT.
- Must be able to identify life-threatening situations quickly and coordinate patient care effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with good judgment.
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility location.
