Job Opportunity: MRI Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Kodiak, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

  • Floating: Yes, within scope to cover outpatient, acute care, and some Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) patients

  • Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours per 2 weeks (traveler can be called off for one 8-hour shift per 2 weeks)

Housing and Vehicle

  • Housing Provided: Yes, typically 1-bedroom apartments
  • Housing Availability: Move-in no earlier than 72 hours before contract start; must vacate within 24 hours after contract end
  • Pets: Not allowed
  • Family Members: Typically not accommodated without approval
  • Housing Cleaning: Traveler responsible for cleaning upon departure or fees apply
  • Vehicle Provided: Yes, either facility-owned or rental car
  • Vehicle Use: Only traveler authorized to operate; must provide valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Vehicle Restrictions: Use limited to “around town” within 30-mile radius; no off-road or outside area use
  • Vehicle Return: Must be cleaned and returned with full gas tank; must be turned in during time off and reissued upon return
  • Additional Costs: Tire chains available at traveler’s expense

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background check within 45 days of start, including SSN trace, education verification, and other state/federal checks as applicable
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
  • Skills Checklist: Required annually for applicable units
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Immunizations and Health Requirements:
    • BLS certification
    • Flu vaccine or declination (seasonal)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Respirator clearance (RespSafety) for travel candidates, updated annually
    • Fit mask testing (annual, travel only)

Certifications (May be required based on unit/UD)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • IV Certification (LVN/LPN/Other)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • State License verification and NURSYS verification as applicable

Training and Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (if required by unit)
  • Competency Exams as required by specialty
  • Specialty-specific WorkRamp training modules and annual regulatory requirements must be completed prior to start and maintained during assignment

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not be local (must live at least 50 miles away)
  • Floating to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance may be required
  • Facility provides free parking and uses Epic for charting
  • Housing and vehicle provided with specific usage and cleaning requirements
  • No pets allowed in provided housing
  • Must comply with all background, health, and certification requirements prior to start

This position is ideal for MRI Technologists with at least 1 year of experience who are open to travel assignments in Alaska, enjoy working in a critical access hospital setting, and are flexible with floating and weekend shifts.
