Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Location: Slidell, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks (Backfill - ASAP)

Job Description

• May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring staying at the facility until the event passes or joining a relief team.
• Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
• No floating required
• On-call: Nurse & tech on call daily 3 PM - 7 AM and weekends 24 hours; likely 2 days per week and one weekend per month
• CVOR experience preferred
• Unit will accept first-time travelers

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
• Prior travel experience not required

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (check unit description)
• Other certifications may be required depending on specialty/unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI) - verify with program management if unclear

Licensure

• Active Louisiana State License or Compact License required upon submission
• License must be current or in the process of renewal prior to start

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
• Education verification of highest level required
• Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Employment application and skills checklist required, with 7 years employment history and gap explanations if applicable

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
• Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (specific units only)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)

Additional Notes

• Color photo for badge required within 24 hours of booking
• Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as described
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required for certain specialties and must be updated annually

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience in the specialty, who are flexible and willing to respond to emergency team assignments. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
